A portable propane heater sold at Lowe’s stores nationwide has been recalled due to a potential fire and burn hazard. The Dewalt 70,000 BTU outdoor portable cordless forced-air propane heater, manufactured by Enerco Group Inc., can overheat because of confusing startup instructions, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced on April 3.
The recall affects approximately 21,250 units sold in the U.S. and an additional 500 units sold in Canada. Consumers have reported that following the directions causes the start button to be pressed too quickly, preventing the fan from turning on, which can lead to overheating. Enerco has received 11 reports of overheating incidents, though no injuries have been reported.
The heaters, which are yellow-and-black with the Dewalt brand name, were sold exclusively at Lowe’s stores and on the retailer’s website for around $200 between May 2024 and January 2025. The model number DXH70CFAVX is printed on the hang tag attached to the unit.
Consumers are advised to stop using the affected heaters immediately and contact Enerco for a replacement instruction manual and warning sticker. Enerco and Lowe’s are proactively reaching out to customers who purchased the affected units.
