In 2024, the UK saw a significant decrease in the import of electric water heaters and immersion heaters, with total imports dropping to 2 million units, a decrease of 70.3% compared to the previous year. This marks a continued decline in imports, following a trend of decreasing numbers over the past few years.
The biggest growth in imports occurred in 2017, when the number of units imported increased by 25%, reaching a peak of 9.3 million units. However, from 2018 to 2024, there was no significant recovery in the growth of imports.
In terms of value, electric water heater imports were valued at $174 million in 2024. Despite the sharp decline in 2024, the overall value of imports grew at an average annual rate of 3.8% from 2013 to 2024. However, there were noticeable fluctuations in import values during this period.
When comparing 2024 to 2021, the value of imports decreased by 18.8%. The most significant increase in import value occurred in 2021, when imports grew by 30%, reaching a peak of $214 million. From 2022 to 2024, the growth of imports slowed, and the trend remained at a lower level.
