Hyundai Mobis Co. announced on Monday that it has created a new safety technology for electric vehicle batteries designed to automatically discharge fire suppressant if a battery cell catches fire, preventing flames from spreading to nearby cells.
The new technology incorporates heat-resistant materials and a fire suppression system integrated directly into the battery case. Hyundai Mobis revealed that it has filed for both domestic and international patents for this innovation.
Hyundai Mobis, the auto parts division of Hyundai Motor Group, explained that the technology not only delays the spread of heat and flames but also prevents thermal runaway—the uncontrolled rapid overheating of the battery—at its source.
