Altilium, a UK-based clean technology company, has officially started construction on the country’s first large-scale electric vehicle (EV) battery recycling facility in Plymouth, Devon. This facility will also feature integrated chemical refining capabilities.
The new ACT 3 scale-up plant aims to position the UK as a leader in sustainable battery materials production. It reflects Altilium’s commitment to building a national battery recycling ecosystem that enhances industrial resilience, energy security, and economic growth.
The cutting-edge facility will have the capacity to recover vital battery minerals such as lithium, nickel, and graphite from up to 24,000 EVs annually. Using Altilium’s proprietary EcoCathode™ process, the facility will convert battery scrap into critical materials like Nickel Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP) and Lithium Sulphate, essential for domestic production of battery cathodes.
