A recent change in regulations has left some Bunnings shoppers in Queensland caught off guard, with one regular customer expressing surprise at a new rule affecting the sale of garden tools. Shane, a Queenslander, visited his local Caloundra store over the weekend with his wife to purchase a garden hoe for backyard work. However, he was taken aback when he found the tool locked behind perspex glass, accompanied by a sign directing him to seek assistance from staff.
“I was surprised,” Shane told Yahoo News Australia. “There was a sign saying, ‘Seek staff for assistance.’” After locating an employee, Shane was escorted to the item, which was then taken to the checkout by the staff member.
“The staff member explained these were new laws and that I couldn’t hold the hoe in the store. He had to carry it to the counter for me,” said Shane, who owns Procheck Automotive. “I thought it was a bit bizarre. I’ve never seen that before.”
Bunnings confirmed to Yahoo News that the changes were prompted by new laws introduced in Queensland, which have led to several operational adjustments at local stores.
