Murphy’s Boro is boosting its snow removal capabilities with an investment of nearly $100,000 in new equipment. The city has added eight additional snow plows, bringing the total number of plows to 22. According to Public Works Director Raymond Hillis, the city’s rapid growth has necessitated enhanced snow removal efforts to ensure public safety, especially as new streets are added to the area.
Crews are currently treating roadways with brine and will soon be equipped to plow snow using trucks that were previously limited to salting. The public works department has expanded significantly, growing from 10 to 50 employees, and now operates in shifts to ensure timely and efficient snow removal. In addition, the city has purchased 1,000 tons of rock salt to prepare for winter weather conditions.
