SK On Unveils All-Solid-State Battery Innovations

by Harry

SK On, a leading player in battery technology, has made significant advancements in the development of all-solid-state batteries (ASSBs), a next-generation power solution that promises improved performance and safety. These batteries replace the liquid electrolytes found in traditional lithium-ion batteries with solid alternatives, offering a more stable and efficient energy storage system. Solid electrolytes are primarily classified into three types: sulfide-based, oxide-based, and polymer-based.

The company has been actively collaborating with esteemed academic institutions and recently shared its pioneering research in prestigious international journals, along with numerous patent applications. One of the standout studies, conducted with the Korea Institute of Ceramic Engineering and Technology, focuses on the use of photonic sintering technology to enhance oxide-rich hybrid solid electrolytes. This innovative technique employs intense light to strengthen material bonds, improving the durability of the electrolytes.
