A fire has been confirmed at the Moss Landing Power Plant on Thursday afternoon.
The fire was reported shortly after 3 p.m. and the building has been evacuated. Authorities say the fire is not hazardous, but a hazmat team remains on standby.
There are no evacuation orders or shelter-in-place instructions for the nearby community of Moss Landing. However, the Monterey County authorities have issued the following advisory:
“The North County Fire Department is responding to the fire at Moss Landing Power Plant. As a precaution, residents in Zones MRY-B047 and MRY-B053 are advised to close windows and doors and turn off air systems until further notice. Residents are also asked to stay away from the area to allow emergency vehicles to access the site.”
