Chervon North America has announced a recall of 63,000 SKIL 40V 5.0Ah Lithium-Ion Batteries due to fire and burn risks. The company advises consumers to stop using the battery immediately and contact Chervon for a refund or replacement.
These batteries are designed for use with SKIL 40V Brushless 20-inch Push Lawnmowers and other tools that use the SKIL 40V battery platform. However, the recall only affects SKIL 40V 5.0Ah Lithium-Ion Batteries manufactured before May 1, 2021.
The recall report indicates that 100 thermal incidents involving these batteries have been reported, including overheating, melting, and instances where smoke or fire was produced. Of these cases, only eight involved minor burns and smoke inhalation, while 49 resulted in property damage.
