Pasadena has amended its recent citywide power air blower ban, which was initially implemented due to ash and debris from the Eaton Fire. The revised restriction, announced on February 19, limits the ban to specific areas affected by the fire, as recovery conditions have improved following the January 2025 wildfire.
City Manager Miguel Márquez, also serving as Director of Disaster Emergency Services, signed the amendment. It now restricts leaf blower use to areas within the fire perimeter and within 50 feet of fire-damaged structures.
The amendment notes that recent environmental tests on City of Pasadena facilities showed no asbestos, and all lead levels were within federal safety limits.
Initially, on January 14, officials imposed a citywide ban on all power air blowers, concerned about health risks from airborne ash, smoke, and particulate matter following the Eaton Fire and severe windstorms in Pasadena that began on January 7. The new amendment acknowledges that fire recovery has progressed sufficiently to relax the ban to a temporary restriction.
