California Surpasses Gas Stations with More EV Chargers Than Ever Before

by Harry

California has reached a key milestone in its shift to clean transportation. The state now has more public and shared private electric vehicle (EV) chargers than gasoline nozzles. Governor Gavin Newsom announced that California has installed 178,549 EV chargers—48% more than the estimated 120,000 gas nozzles across the state.

“As the federal government makes it harder to charge an electric car, California is doing the opposite,” Governor Newsom said. “We now have nearly 50% more chargers than gas nozzles, meaning drivers have more options than ever to power their vehicles.”

This achievement highlights California’s strong commitment to zero-emission transportation. Of the 178,000 chargers, over 162,000 are Level 2 chargers, and nearly 17,000 are fast chargers. Additionally, the California Energy Commission (CEC) reports that more than 700,000 Level 2 chargers have been installed in single-family homes.
