Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE) is continuing its efforts to enhance electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure with the recent installation of a new DC Fast Charger at its Franklin office, located at 2156 Edward Curd Lane, just off I-65. This marks the third fast-charging station in MTE’s service area, following previous installations in Lebanon and Murfreesboro.
The new charging station is part of the Fast Charge TN Network, an initiative led by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), and local utility companies. This program aims to support regional EV travel along major highways and ensure convenient charging access for drivers.
The chargers at MTE’s Franklin location feature advanced technology from KEMPOWER, a company founded in Lahti, Finland, in 2017. The station is equipped with four dispensers (satellites) and eight charging ports, including seven CCS1 and one CHAdeMO. Each dispenser can deliver up to 200 kW of power, and the station is equipped with Payter credit card readers, accepting payments through tap, chip, or swipe. The site is also connected to the ZEF Energy network, enabling users to charge via the ZEFNET app.
KEMPOWER, which opened a North American factory in Durham, NC, in 2024, is quickly becoming a leader in EV charging technology with around 850 employees globally.
“We are excited to bring more fast-charging options to our members as EV adoption continues to grow in Tennessee,” said Brandon Wagoner, MTE’s vice president of strategy execution and analytics. “This is the third DC Fast Charger in our service area, with the first installed in March 2024 at our Lebanon office and the second in Murfreesboro at our Central office.”
