More households and businesses in New South Wales are harnessing the power of solar energy round the clock, thanks to the state’s latest battery incentive scheme, which has seen strong early adoption since its launch in November 2024. Over 7800 batteries have already been installed in homes and businesses across the state, marking a significant step in the transition to more sustainable energy use.
The scheme offers eligible homeowners and businesses an upfront discount on the cost of battery installation, with installers working alongside government-accredited suppliers. The discount is based on the size of the battery, meaning larger batteries qualify for bigger savings. For instance, a typical household battery with 13.5kWh of capacity can receive an average discount of $2000. This offer is available for both new and existing solar systems.
For a typical household with an $1850 annual electricity bill, installing both solar panels and a battery could result in savings of around $1500 per year, offering both financial and environmental benefits.
The New South Wales Government highlighted that more than half of the 7800 installations have occurred outside the Sydney Region, with 23 installations taking place in the City of Broken Hill. The incentive scheme has reached over 90% of all local government areas in the state, with over 600 installers participating statewide.
With more than one-third of homes in the state now equipped with rooftop solar systems, the ability to store this solar energy in batteries for later use offers significant benefits for household budgets and energy reliability.
