South Korea’s SK ie Technology Co. (SKIET) announced on Thursday that it will provide battery separator films for 300,000 electric vehicles (EVs) to a North American EV battery material company.
Deliveries began this month, and SKIET plans to continue supplying the films throughout the next year.
Industry sources estimate the deal to be worth around 110 billion won ($75.7 million).
Battery separators are thin films used in lithium-ion batteries, positioned between the anode and cathode. They prevent electrical contact while allowing lithium ions to pass through. The films supplied by SKIET will undergo a coating process before being delivered to battery manufacturers.
As part of the new contract, SKIET will supply only the base separator film, which will be coated by LG Chem Ltd.
