Tacoma Expands Public EV Charging Network for Increased Convenience

by Harry

The City of Tacoma is enhancing its commitment to sustainability and electric vehicle (EV) adoption with the expansion of its public EV charging network in the downtown area. In collaboration with Tacoma Public Utilities, the Office of Environmental Policy and Sustainability has launched the Downtown EV Charging Expansion Project, nearly doubling the number of publicly accessible EV chargers in Tacoma’s downtown core.

This project adds 21 new chargers across seven City-operated parking lots and garages, including two chargers strategically located near I-705 for easy access. With the addition of these chargers, Tacoma now boasts a total of 51 public EV chargers downtown, consisting of 47 Level 2 chargers and two Level 3 DC fast chargers. Additionally, 13 more chargers are scheduled to be activated soon.

The expanded network is designed to provide broader coverage and enhanced convenience for residents, visitors, and commuters, making it easier than ever to choose electric vehicles in the city.
