Samsung Electronics has announced the launch of its new refrigerators featuring AI Hybrid Cooling technology, set to debut at CES® 2025 and expand into global markets later this year. These innovative refrigerators integrate artificial intelligence with advanced cooling systems to meet the evolving needs of modern households.
“Since refrigerators run 24/7, we focused on creating a cooling system that significantly enhances energy efficiency for users,” said Jeong Seung Moon, EVP and Head of the R&D Team for Samsung’s Digital Appliances Business. “With the global unveiling of AI Hybrid Cooling technology, we’re demonstrating our commitment to home appliance innovation and aim to continue delivering products that make daily life more convenient for consumers.”
AI Hybrid Cooling Technology for Energy Efficiency
AI Hybrid Cooling combines a high-efficiency compressor with a Peltier module, a semiconductor device that cools through the temperature change generated by the flow of electric current. This dual-power approach allows the refrigerator to function like a hybrid car, using both power sources only when necessary to optimize cooling efficiency.
For example, when there is a spike in cooling demand—such as after a large grocery shopping trip, storing hot food, or during hot summer months—the refrigerator activates the Peltier module in tandem with the compressor. During regular use, however, it relies solely on the compressor to maximize energy efficiency. The refrigerator’s AI algorithm continuously monitors its status and anticipates temperature changes to adjust cooling modes accordingly.
AI Inverter Compressor for Enhanced Performance
The AI Inverter Compressor also plays a key role in energy efficiency. With an improved design that increases the radius of its rotating components, this compressor offers 4.1 times greater inertia compared to Samsung’s previous F3 compressor, enabling it to operate longer while consuming less energy. Using AI, the compressor dynamically adjusts its speed to optimize performance.
Samsung’s ongoing efforts to enhance energy efficiency will culminate in a model that is expected to earn the title of Most Efficient from ENERGY STAR by 2025.
