BYD’s 15th Division Air Conditioning Factory has announced the production of its 10 millionth electric compressor, marking a significant achievement in the development of automotive air conditioning technology. The milestone highlights the rapid growth of BYD’s electric compressor production, with the company achieving major advancements in both speed and efficiency.
Since the launch of the first prototype in 2011, it took BYD 120 months to produce the 1 millionth unit in 2021. However, the company has significantly accelerated production, reaching 5 million units just 30 months later in 2023, and now, only 17 months after that, the 10 millionth unit has been rolled off the production line.
The latest electric compressor integrates a Hall sensor and represents a breakthrough in ultra-low-speed performance. It has reduced the minimum operating speed from 960rpm to just 100rpm, catering specifically to the needs of car refrigerators in single-opening mode. The new design also boasts an impressive 30% improvement in oil-gas separation efficiency, with a 120% increase in residual oil volume, ensuring optimal cooling performance.
With a displacement of 45cc, which can be expanded to 57cc on the same platform, the compressor is engineered to meet the high-power charging and discharging refrigeration needs of electric vehicles. This innovation was first introduced in June 2024 with the Denza Z9 model, marking a groundbreaking moment in the industry as the electric compressor was successfully integrated into the car refrigerator system for new energy vehicles (NEVs).
BYD’s progress underscores its technological leadership in the development of electric vehicle components, and this milestone paves the way for further advancements in energy-efficient automotive technologies.
