by Harry

A man suspected of stealing air conditioner compressors in the Pasir Panjang area was arrested in the early hours of Christmas Day. The Pasir Panjang Volunteer Security Association confirmed their participation in a joint operation with the police, leading to the suspect’s detention in connection with at least five cases of compressor theft.

Liang Zhaohui, the security team director, explained that the police had identified the thief through CCTV footage from a house in Pasir Panjang, which had captured the suspect’s image during a break-in on Christmas Eve morning. The police notified the security team of the suspect’s whereabouts late on Christmas Eve, prompting the dispatch of four security members to support the operation. They worked alongside officers from both the Pasir Panjang and Red Rambutan Police Stations, totaling ten people involved in the arrest.

In addition to the recent compressor thefts, the security team reported an increase in underground cable thefts in the area, including commercial zones such as Pasir Panjang New Town and Trade Square. Xi suggested that thieves may have used the cover of heavy rainfall during the night to carry out the cable thefts, which have continued despite multiple arrests. The police are continuing their investigation into these incidents.
