The Calgary Fire Department responded to a fire caused by a lithium-ion battery pack at Calgary International Airport over the holiday weekend. The fire broke out in an airport lounge on Friday morning, prompting emergency crews to be dispatched at 9:42 a.m.
When responders arrived at the scene, they found that airline staff had already evacuated the lounge and cordoned off the affected area. According to a news release from the fire department, the lithium-ion battery pack burned itself out without causing significant damage or injuries.

Maintenance staff at the airport worked quickly to clear the smoke using the building’s ventilation system, allowing the area to return to normal operation.
