A spokesperson for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has issued a warning to consumers using compressors, stating that their connections will be disconnected. He explained that during the winter months, some consumers use compressors, which not only disrupt the gas supply to others but also negatively affect the overall distribution system.
The spokesperson urged consumers to follow safe gas usage practices, including using high-quality gas appliances and regularly inspecting equipment and pipelines for leaks. These precautions are particularly important to prevent accidents during the winter season.
Despite repeated awareness campaigns, the spokesperson noted that negligence during colder months often leads to unfortunate incidents. He specifically warned against using rubber pipes with gas heaters, as many past accidents have been linked to their improper use.
The spokesperson emphasized the importance of a safety-first approach to ensure both consumer safety and uninterrupted services. He also encouraged consumers to avoid excessive gas consumption and to educate their families and staff about basic safety protocols.
Hotel and guesthouse owners were advised to place safety instruction cards in rooms, providing clear guidelines for using gas heaters properly. The spokesperson also recommended using soapy water instead of matches to detect gas leaks, and suggested seeking help from certified plumbers for any necessary repairs.
He further highlighted the dangers of operating electrical switches or devices during a gas leak, as this could ignite any accumulated gas. In such situations, he urged consumers to immediately shut off the main gas valve, open windows and doors for ventilation, and avoid using fans or exhaust systems.
Finally, he stressed the importance of proper ventilation in rooms with gas heaters and advised consumers to turn off all gas-powered appliances, including stoves, geysers, and heaters, before going to bed.
