Fastned UK Ltd. has submitted a planning application to North Yorkshire Council for a new electric vehicle (EV) charging plaza, set to be built adjacent to Exelby Services, near the Leeming junction. The proposed facility will feature 20 rapid charging points under a solar panel canopy, aimed at making long-distance travel for electric vehicles more convenient. In addition, a drive-thru coffee shop is also planned for the site.
Fastned UK, a subsidiary of the Netherlands-based Fastned BV, which operates over 320 multi-charger rapid charging stations across Europe and the UK, hopes the new facility will help address two common concerns among EV owners: “range anxiety” and “charger anxiety.” Range anxiety refers to the fear of running out of battery power during a journey, while charger anxiety is the worry about finding an available charging point.
According to the supporting documents submitted with the planning application, the new charging plaza is designed to support longer journeys and reduce waiting times. “To enable longer journeys with growing battery capacity, it will be essential to have a network of fast-charging facilities along key routes,” the documents state. The facility will focus on minimizing dwell time for drivers, allowing for quick, mid-journey stops to recharge and continue their travels.
