The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that its air defenses intercepted and shot down nine Ukrainian drones targeting the Russkaya compressor station near the village of Gai-Kodzor in the southern Krasnodar region.
According to the statement, no casualties were reported, but the facility sustained minor damage from drone fragments. The emergency response teams of PJSC Gazprom quickly repaired the damage, and the station’s operations were not interrupted.
The statement suggested the attack was intended to disrupt Russian gas supplies to Europe.
Ukrainian officials have not responded to Russia’s claims.
The TurkStream pipeline, which spans over 930 kilometers across the Black Sea, connects the Russkaya compressor station to Türkiye’s Thrace region.
This incident comes after the expiration of a five-year agreement between Moscow and Kyiv on January 1, which allowed Russian gas to transit through Ukraine. Ukraine’s refusal to extend the deal leaves TurkStream and BlueStream as the only remaining routes for Russia to deliver gas to Europe.
