John Deere has issued a recall for thousands of its “ZTrak” Zero Turn Riding Mowers with Kawasaki Engines due to a potential fire risk. The company announced this week that the mowers could overheat and catch fire due to a faulty voltage regulator. While no injuries have been reported, the recall notice from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) includes five fire reports and 26 instances of melting or smoking.
The issue with the mowers stems from the voltage regulator, which can malfunction during operation or while the mower is being stored.
John Deere sold approximately 39,000 of the affected riding mowers between October 2018 and September 2024, with prices ranging from $8,000 to $11,500, according to the CPSC.
