The recent wildfires, intensified by strong winds, have significantly worsened air quality by releasing harmful smoke and particulate matter, posing serious health risks. Both immediate and long-term effects are expected, especially for vulnerable populations.
The fires have led to widespread displacement, forced evacuations from healthcare facilities, and disrupted essential health services.
To protect residents’ health, the use of power air blowers, including leaf blowers, has been banned until further notice. These devices stir up ash and particulate matter, further degrading air quality and increasing health risks, particularly for those with respiratory issues, older adults, children, and pets.
The ban applies to all of Los Angeles County due to the widespread presence of ash and airborne particles throughout the region.
