The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has implemented a temporary ban on leaf blowers and similar air-blowing devices to safeguard public health during post-fire recovery efforts. The decision follows hazardous air quality conditions, increased ash accumulation, and disruptions to health services caused by recent fires and strong winds.
County Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis emphasized the dangers of ash, describing it as a fine, harmful dust that can be inhaled deep into the lungs and cause serious health problems.
The ban applies to all power air blowers throughout the county and will remain in place until recovery conditions improve. The measure aims to reduce the health risks from fire ash, smoke, and particulate matter caused by critical fire events and windstorms.
