Texas Eastern is seeking authorization to replace the previously planned EMD compressor unit with a gas-driven turbine compressor unit at its Entriken Compressor Station. This change comes in response to delays surrounding the construction of an approximately 8-mile (12 km) high-voltage electric transmission line, originally needed to power the EMD unit.
The transmission line, which was part of the original project design, faced permitting hurdles and concerns from stakeholders regarding the high-voltage power lines. As a result, it will not be completed in time to meet the project’s deadlines, which include a November 1, 2025, in-service date for the project shippers.
Without the transmission line, Texas Eastern cannot rely on the EMD unit to meet the necessary capacity for the project. The proposed gas turbine compressor unit would allow the project to proceed on schedule, ensuring the facilities are operational before the 2026-2027 winter heating season.
