The commune of Mougins, located near Cannes in the Alpes-Maritimes, is introducing a grant to encourage residents to purchase quieter garden tools in an effort to reduce noise pollution. Under this new initiative, up to 30% subsidies are available for items such as lawn mowers, hedge trimmers, and leaf blowers, provided they meet specific low-noise criteria.
This initiative, effective from the beginning of 2025, is part of an ongoing commitment by the commune to combat noise pollution. In fact, Mougins had already passed by-laws in 2022 aimed at limiting noise disturbances, with this grant being the latest measure to tackle the issue.
In addition to subsidizing quieter gardening tools, the commune also offers subsidies for electric wood chippers and mulchers (broyeurs électriques) to encourage environmentally friendly and quieter garden maintenance practices.
The grant scheme will be trialed for one year, after which it will be assessed and could be extended if it successfully reduces garden-related noise levels in the community.
