SK Ecoplant’s battery recycling subsidiary, SK Tess, has entered into a significant long-term partnership with BMW Group to enhance battery recycling operations in Europe. This agreement, announced on January 14, marks SK Tess’s first partnership with a global automaker.
The collaboration focuses on promoting a battery circular economy by reusing valuable materials such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel extracted from used electric vehicle batteries provided by BMW. These materials will be repurposed for the production of new batteries, ensuring a sustainable approach to battery lifecycle management.
As part of the agreement, BMW Group will supply used electric vehicle batteries and scrap materials (defective products from battery manufacturing) from Europe to SK Tess. The partnership is expected to begin in the second half of this year.
