Police in Perak have arrested six men and one woman suspected of being involved in a series of air conditioning compressor thefts. The thefts took place at various premises and homes across the state throughout the previous year.
Perak Tengah District Police Chief, Supt Hafezul Helmi Hamzzah, confirmed that the suspects, aged between 17 and 45, were arrested following investigations by the Special Intelligence Operations Division of the Perak Tengah District Police Headquarters.
“Four of the seven suspects have been charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code, and three of the 11 reported cases have been solved as a result,” he said in a statement. The thieves’ method involved targeting homes and premises left unattended for extended periods.
Supt Hafezul also encouraged the public to use the ‘Balik Kampung’ Feedback Form initiative to assist authorities with regular monitoring and patrols of vacant properties. The form, available at local police stations, allows residents to notify authorities of their absence. Additionally, individuals can report their absence through the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) app.
