A lithium battery incident occurred today at MTR Tsim Sha Tsui station when a passenger’s battery started emitting smoke on a train bound for Tsuen Wan. Police were notified at 7:06 pm, and quick-thinking passengers acted fast to prevent any injuries.
Witnesses reported that one passenger kicked the smoking battery out of the carriage, while others used an onboard fire extinguisher to contain the smoke. Photos shared online showed a considerable amount of white powder on the train floor.
All passengers were safely evacuated to the platform as MTR staff attended to the situation. Despite the incident, train services were resumed shortly after, and normal operations have since been restored.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident.
