PTG Holroyd Precision Launches HG500, World’s Most Versatile Machine for Precision Helical Rotor Grinding
Rochdale-based PTG Holroyd Precision has introduced the HG500, a state-of-the-art machine that it claims to be the world’s most versatile, ultra-high-performance solution for precision grinding helical profiles used in the air and refrigeration compressor industry.
The HG500 is designed to cater to manufacturers with diverse production needs, from small to large-scale production of helical rotors. With a grinding capability ranging from 50mm to 510mm in diameter, 130mm in profile depth, and up to 1,500kg in weight, the machine is capable of processing some of the largest rotors used in refrigeration and air-compressor manufacturing.
Mark Curran, PTG Holroyd’s sales director, explained, “Following feedback from customers after the successful upgrade to our TG Series of thread grinding machines, we identified a demand for a large-capacity helical rotor grinding solution. The HG500 not only accommodates a wide range of rotor sizes but also handles the largest, most energy-efficient helical profiles with ease.”
The HG500 offers significant flexibility in production strategies, featuring the option of a 500mm vitrified dressable aluminium oxide grinding wheel for versatile product development, or plated CBN roughing and finishing wheels for cost-effective mass production. For those grinding the largest helical components, a 600mm vitrified dressable aluminium oxide wheel is also available to ensure maximum wheel life.
In addition to its versatile grinding capabilities, PTG Holroyd focused on delivering powerful, intuitive programming, achieved through the use of the Siemens Sinumerik One CNC. PTG Holroyd was the first UK machine tool manufacturer to integrate this advanced Siemens CNC, which has already been incorporated into the company’s HG350 and TG Series machines.
Curran added, “Being the first to adopt the Sinumerik One allowed us to work closely with Siemens to tailor the CNC to our specific requirements. The result is a machine with industry-leading integrated safety, enhanced machine health reporting, and robust industrial security. The addition of faster PLC controls, enhanced connectivity, and new Profinet and OPC/UA interfaces ensures that the HG500 delivers exceptional performance.”
The launch of the HG500 sets a new benchmark for precision rotor grinding, offering manufacturers an innovative solution for a wide array of helical rotor profiles.
