The Greene County Legislature is set to purchase a high-powered air compressor system for use by fire department personnel across the county. The system, priced at $74,920, will be supplied by AAA Emergency Supplies, a White Plains-based company.
Dan King, deputy director and emergency manager at the county’s Emergency Services Department, explained that the new system will replace the current one, which is broken beyond repair. “The system fills self-contained air packs for firefighters,” King said. “They use these air tanks when entering burning buildings, and this is what refills them. Many fire departments in the county come here to use our system.”
Once in place, the new compressor will be available to all 27 fire departments in Greene County, with the exception of Cairo, Athens, and Freehold, which each already have their own high-powered compressors.
