St. Boniface Elementary School is closed today following an early morning fire. Emergency crews responded to Marion School on Des Meurons Street just after 6 a.m. after reports of smoke inside the building.
Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control and ventilated smoke from the premises. The damage was primarily contained to a single office, and fortunately, no one was inside the K-8 school at the time of the incident. No injuries have been reported.
Classes have been canceled for today as authorities assess the situation. Damage estimates are not yet available.
Preliminary findings suggest that the fire was accidental, caused by an overheated electrical outlet with a portable space heater plugged in.
