Danfoss Aims to Automate Fastening Process to Boost Efficiency and Quality

by Harry

Danfoss’ assembly plant in Gråsten, Denmark, is responsible for manufacturing AC drives, frequency converters, and other electronic products. At the heart of these products are circuit board assemblies, which require numerous threaded fasteners. Screws are used to secure components such as boards, connectors, and subassemblies to the housing, as well as to assemble the housing itself.

In many assembly processes, the cost of the fasteners is less significant than the cost of installing them. To address this, engineers at Danfoss sought to automate the fastening process to reduce costs, enhance quality, and improve ergonomics. Given the high-mix nature of production at Danfoss, any automation system would need to be flexible, reliable, and precise to meet their requirements.
