Tozero, Europe’s leading startup in sustainable lithium-ion battery recycling, has successfully produced battery-grade recycled graphite at an industrial scale. This marks the first time 100% recycled anode material has been used in battery cell production, proving its potential for commercial use.
Traditional recycling methods often burn graphite or send it to waste streams due to the use of harsh acids, making it difficult to recover. However, tozero’s innovative process recovers over 80% of the graphite while maintaining its original structure on a large scale. This breakthrough allows the material to be refined back to battery-grade quality. The successful test of the recycled graphite battery cell demonstrated performance on par with cells made from virgin graphite.
