Buena Park has become the latest city to implement a ban on gas-powered lawn equipment, with plans to gradually transition residents, businesses, and city employees to electric alternatives. The move is part of a broader effort by cities across California to comply with state laws that restrict the sale of small gas-powered motors.
Last Tuesday, Buena Park city officials approved an ordinance requiring all lawn equipment used in the city to be electric by 2028. The ordinance also includes an $88,000 allocation from the city’s general fund to create a rebate program, which will help businesses and residents offset some of the costs of switching to electric appliances.
Buena Park joins other cities, like Irvine, which adopted a similar ordinance in late 2023. Irvine became the first city in Orange County to ban gas-powered lawn equipment.
