All-solid-state batteries are anticipated to be installed in electric vehicles (EVs) in China by 2027, with mass production likely to begin by 2030, according to a report citing a representative from the third-party think tank China EV100.
Compared to commonly used lithium-ion batteries, solid-state batteries offer several advantages, including improved safety, higher energy density, longer lifespan, and faster charging speeds, the representative explained during the China EV100 Forum in Beijing.
The number of patent applications for solid-state batteries in China has been steadily increasing since the second half of 2024. Major Chinese battery manufacturers are now focusing on the technology, particularly using sulfide-based electrolytes, with the goal of achieving an energy density of 400 watt-hours per kilogram.
