Porsche eBike Performance GmbH announced on Tuesday its plans to build a battery production facility in Sveta Nedelja, Croatia, set to open next year. This new facility is part of the company’s strategy to strengthen the collaboration between development and manufacturing as it works towards developing its own e-bike drive system.
The Croatian subsidiary, based in Zagreb, will continue to handle battery development, while the manufacturing process will take place in the Sveta Nedelja facility, which spans nearly 22,000 square feet. Porsche eBike explained that the decision to bring battery production in-house was driven by the need for comprehensive quality control and production reliability.
The company plans to convert the existing building by the end of this year, preparing it with automated and scalable production lines. The start of production is scheduled for early 2026, aligning with the launch of Porsche’s e-bike drive system.
Meanwhile, drive unit production, including the motor and transmission, will be carried out in Germany, with the exact location still to be determined. At the German site, Porsche will focus on integrating development and production closely.
In 2022, Porsche eBike partnered with Pon Holdings’ Ponooc Investment B.V. to develop the e-bike drive systems, which will be used in Porsche e-bikes and other brands.
