A fire broke out in a gas heater in the basement of a house in Dali last night, leading to minor injuries for a domestic worker. The blaze, which occurred at around 9:52 PM, was extinguished by the property owner before firefighters arrived at the scene.
The Nicosia Fire Service responded quickly with two fully-crewed fire engines. Upon arrival, they found that the fire had already been put out using water. Firefighters took precautionary measures by moving the gas cylinder to a safer location and inspecting the scene. The fire caused minor damage to equipment and clothing in the room due to high temperatures.
The domestic worker sustained minor burns and was transported to the Accident and Emergency Department of Nicosia General Hospital by ambulance.
Initial investigations suggest that a malfunction in the gas heater may have been the cause of the fire, though a full technical assessment is still pending.
The incident was part of a larger series of 38 calls that the Fire Service responded to recently, which included 24 fires and 14 special assistance cases.
