Drivers in the Midlands are set to benefit from over 16,000 new electric vehicle (EV) chargers, thanks to a £40.8 million investment from the UK Government.
Lilian Greenwood, the Minister for the Future of Roads, confirmed that 13 local authorities in the Midlands, with support from Midlands Connect, will receive the funding from the Local EV Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund. This will help roll out thousands of new chargers across the region.
The new funding adds to the £2.3 billion already provided to help both industries and consumers transition to electric vehicles. The additional chargers will enhance charging infrastructure, especially in smaller towns and rural areas.
The UK’s public chargepoint network continues to expand, with 75,000 chargers now available nationwide. Nearly 20,000 chargers were added last year alone, setting a new record.
