The Electric Vehicle Council (EVC) has introduced a new app, Charge@Large, aimed at making electric vehicle (EV) charging more convenient for drivers across Australia. This free app provides real-time updates on charger availability, allowing users to know whether a charger is in use, operational, or out of order.
The app is designed to alleviate the frustrations EV drivers face, particularly issues like arriving at a charging station only to find it unavailable. By providing real-time data on charger status, it helps reduce range anxiety and improves the overall EV driving experience. Additionally, the app collects valuable data on charger use and performance, which will be shared with governments to guide improvements to the national charging network.
Julie Delvecchio, Chief Executive of the EVC, highlighted the importance of the app in meeting the growing demand for reliable EV charging. “With more than 300,000 electric vehicles on Australian roads, the demand for accessible, reliable charging has never been greater,” she said. “Charge@Large addresses key challenges by helping reduce range anxiety and providing governments with essential data to improve charger coverage and reliability.”
Governments can use the data from the app to identify areas with high demand for charging stations and track frequent outages, which will help in expanding and enhancing the charging infrastructure across Australia.
