ChargePoint has recently launched five new DC fast charging stations in upstate New York, expanding its EV infrastructure across key locations, including Cortland, Waterloo, Lake Placid, Niagara Falls, and Ripley. These stations are supported by crucial funding from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), furthering efforts to enhance the state’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.
Key Features of the Expansion
EV drivers can easily locate and access these new charging stations through the ChargePoint mobile app, which also allows users to pay for charging services at the new stations. This expansion is an essential step toward addressing the growing need for accessible and reliable charging infrastructure.
Collaboration with NYSERDA
Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint, highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships in scaling EV charging infrastructure. He said, “ChargePoint’s collaboration with NYSERDA demonstrates the critical role that public-private partnerships will continue to play in the build out of charging infrastructure, particularly at the state level.” This partnership ensures that costs are shared, accelerating the development of EV charging stations.
Focus on Disadvantaged Communities
NYSERDA’s support, part of its Clean Transportation program, enables the build-out of critical EV charging infrastructure throughout New York State, with a particular focus on underserved and disadvantaged communities. According to the program, 50% of the fast-charging stations funded will be located in these communities, helping ensure that EV infrastructure is accessible to all residents and reducing barriers to EV adoption.
