Endeavour Energy, the distribution network operator in New South Wales (NSW), will install four community batteries in the Wollongong region as part of the federal government’s Community Batteries for Household Solar program. These batteries will be located on council land and are aimed at boosting energy efficiency and supporting local solar power systems.
The batteries will be installed at strategic locations: the Kundle Reserve, Ribbonwood Centre, and Compton Reserve in Dapto, approximately 14 kilometres southwest of Wollongong, and the Cawley Park battery in Russell Vale, about 10 kilometres north of Wollongong.
The Kundle and Compton community batteries will each feature Ecojoule 40 kVA pole-mounted battery banks. These systems will include a single power pole to support the battery and a conductor to connect it to the existing overhead powerline. Meanwhile, the Ribbonwood and Cawley Park installations will consist of 50 kW battery banks connected to a new street pillar and underground cabling to integrate with the existing low-voltage electricity network.
Endeavour Energy plans to further expand its community battery network with installations in other locations such as Bidwill, Blaxland, Cabramatta, Dapto, Hobartville, and Warrawong, helping to strengthen the grid and promote renewable energy usage across NSW.
