LG Energy Solution Signs Battery Supply Deal for Energy Storage in Poland

by Harry

LG Energy Solution Ltd. (LGES), South Korea’s leading battery manufacturer, announced on Tuesday that it has signed a deal to supply lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries for energy storage systems (ESS) in Poland. The batteries will be used in a 1-gigawatt-hour ESS facility being developed by Polska Grupa Energetyczna, a state-run utility firm. The facility is expected to begin operations in 2027.

The LFP batteries for this project will be produced at LGES’ plant located in Wroclaw, a city in southwestern Poland. This deal is part of LGES’ broader strategy to strengthen its presence in the European market, particularly in the growing ESS sector. The company hopes this deal will open doors to further ESS battery contracts across Europe.

In response to the slowdown in all-electric car sales, LGES has adjusted its production lines at the Wroclaw plant to focus on ESS batteries, which are seeing a rise in demand due to the increasing need for energy storage solutions in the renewable energy and grid stabilization sectors.
